What does it mean to "delight yourself in the Lord?" Because when you do that you will receive the desires of your heart. I wanted to discover what that meant. More importantly I wanted the desires in my heart to line up with the heart of God. I desired to discover His heart so that I could be who He made me to be.
So began the journey of seeking God's heart and His will. It really was simple... much more simple than we make it out to be. In this journey I asked God to humble my heart so that I would be open to His will in my life. I continually prayed that He would align my heart with His.
In this process I learned just what delighting myself in Him meant. Asking God to make His desires yours is delighting in Him. It is delighting in who He made you to be. As you continually allow the Lord to refine your heart you're delighting in Him. When you delight in Him you receive the desires of your heart. Because you have delighted in Him your desires are His desires. Ultimately you are walking out His will in your life because you are allowing His heart to reflect in yours.
We try so hard to do everything we can to please God or just to do the right things. We were never made to do. We were made to be. Be people who reflect the heart of God and bring glory to Him.
When we learn to just live in worship of Him and pray for His will in our lives we are learning to be who He made us to be.
This verse has become a daily reminder to humble myself before Him and ask that His will be done in my life. This verse has also brought me great comfort. It is easy to wonder if I am where He wants me; being the person He wants me to be. I trust, though, that if I am delighting myself in Him my life will be a reflection of the Hannah He wants me to be.
